Open Question: does my ex empoloyer hav to mail me my w-2 form by law?

this year i had different jobs a couple wich were temp agencies. one of these agencies has not sent me my w-2. i called them n they told me they dont mail them i hav to go pik it up myself. my friend told me rite now that by law they hav to mail it to me. is this true, if so who can i call to reprot them if they try to tell me, when i call them again, they wont mail it to me. i only care about this cuz by the time i get off work n driv over there, they r already closed so i cant go get my w-2 form. im in san jose california if that has any thing to do wit the law...
